I think I make a pretty good pie but mine don't compare to the frozen pies from The Village PieMaker. Every now and then, Aldi will have pies from there. Usually it's apple and cherry, sometimes it's apple and strawberry/rhubarb. Any time I see them at Aldi, which seems to be around holidays, I'll get a couple for the freezer. I always wish I had gotten more but my waistline thanks me for only getting two.
Last week we were in Kansas and we were on Route 66. We passed this little store that I thought was a plant nursery so I asked Vince if we could stop there on the way home. It's Old Riverton Store and it's a store . . not a plant nursery. They sell sandwiches, lots of Route 66 memorabilia, fun snacks that mostly were what you would have found back when Route 66 was the major highway through here. The store is actually in Riverton, KS, which is very near the Missouri/Kansas state line. If you're ever in the area, it's definitely worth a visit. But, they had a cooler and it was FULL of Village Pie maker pies. I had no idea they had so many flavors. They also have apple and cherry pie cheesecakes, cream pies, Key Lime pie . . a lot of pies! Vince said "Do you want to get one?" Not really -- I wanted them ALL! I got the Black Cherry and it just came out of the oven.
I shouldn't complain about the photo quality. I should be thankful my oven takes videos and pictures so I can sit downstairs and write blog posts and watch the pie baking in the oven, right?
Next time we go over that way, it will be cooler and we'll bring a cooler because I want more than one pie! I think I might want several black cherry pies!
The pie has to cool before we can cut into it so probably another couple of hours. I wish there was a way I could cut just a little sliver out without messing it up . . but I'll be patient I guess.
