The biggest part of what I order from Azure is grain in 50 pound bags - hard white, soft white, barley, millet, oats, einkorn, spelt, corn, rye, etc. I do order other things but there's always grain of some kind . . until today. I didn't have a single bag of grain and I believe this is the first order ever without grain. When the deadline for placing the order arrives, all we know as far as pickup date/time is "Week of August 31". It could have been on Sunday, August 31. It could have been on Monday, Labor Day or any other day. I'm almost always available to go except the days I stitch with Debbie or, have an appointment I feel like I shouldn't cancel. By the time I knew the date of today's pickup, I would have hated to cancel on my physical therapist because she might not have been able to fill that spot. I do have a friend just down the street who orders every time and she never minds picking up for me and I never mind picking up for her (though she orders for a family of 13).
When I order 50 pound bags of grain, putting it up involves dumping it into one or two 5 gallon buckets, labeling the bucket, putting a gamma seal lid on the bucket and putting it away in the basement.
Today, just about everything I ordered required some hands on time!
Everything had to be put into jars and sealed. There was 12 pounds of rolled, sprouted organic oats; 6.5 pounds of sprouted organic steel cut oats; 25 pounds of Baja Gold fine salt; 1 pound of organic lemon balm leaf; 5 pounds of roasted, salted pumpkin seeds; 4 pounds of chia seeds; 4 pounds of flax seed meal. I think that's it.
Other items that didn't require much attention - avocado oil, lime juice, cheesecloth, Greek yogurt, glycerin for making hand soap, a couple of essential oils . . that's all I remember but I'm probably leaving something off.
By the time I got all that in jars (still not vacuum sealed!), I was thankful there were leftovers in the fridge for dinner.
I will not place an order for pickup the end of September because there are a couple of days the week of the pickup that both Vince and I already have appointments. The next order will be for pickup October 26 and I will place an order for that pickup. I probably will not place an order for the end of November because it's often Thanksgiving week and there's too much going on already at that time. I don't usually order for pickup December, January or February because of the weather. The trucks can be delayed and then we're on standby basically til they get here or there could be lots of snow or ice and we'd have to go out in it to pick up our orders. I think we're pretty well stocked with what we like to buy from Azure that we can easily make it til March.
