How many posts can I write about Oscar and his nails? You know me . . many posts! :)
Yesterday he jumped up on my lap and kept staring at the tray on the table next to where I sit and stitch. He would look at the tray, then look at me, then look at the tray and look at me. He does things like that when he sees something he wants me to look at - a bug or Cooper has something he isn't supposed to have. I thought it was a bug but then I realized he was looking at his nail clippers. I picked them up and said "Do you want your nails cut?" He whirled himself around so he could sit with his back to me, which is how I hold him with his paws sticking forward so I can get to them; he sat there like that holding that right paw out to be cut.
Obviously, I just cannot believe he's doing this. I found one nail that needed just a smidgen taken off so I cut that, gave both Oscar and Cooper their treats. Cooper thinks any time he's going to eat, he needs to go into the crate, which is fine so I close him up in the crate and I toss them to Oscar and he runs across the room and grabs it and sometimes I give him a second one .. and sometimes I'm so happy with how he's acting about those nails, I give him a third one. Of course, Cooper gets as many as Oscar gets . . we have to be fair.
It isn't really a treat. It's a piece of the T/D Dental dog food. The chunks are much, much bigger than their food and they think it's a treat and it helps clean their teeth so I'm ok with giving them several per day.
I would never ever have guessed we would be playing a game to cut his nails and Oscar would be enjoying it.
