Here she was a year or so later. She had been at our house in Texas for five weeks during the summer of the pandemic. Her mom was working; day care was closed so she stayed with us. She discovered the plum trees and, even though she told me she didn't like plums, as soon as she tasted one, I couldn't keep her out of the orchard. She would wake up in the morning, put on her boots, go out there, put the ladder where she wanted it and start picking and eating plums - right off the tree.
This picture has so much that I loved . . the girl, fruit trees, chickens, greenhouse. If only we could have moved our Texas house, land and the improvements we had made to Missouri. I do not want to go back; I'm glad we moved and are closer to Chad, Nicole and Addie but, seeing the pictures, there is a small twinge of wishing we had the solitude we had there, the larger greenhouse, the wells, the chickens, all the fruit trees, the big garden.
OK .. those days are over. Now we have bigger and better things to enjoy.
Now, she's playing on the volleyball team and she's way too grown up. We are able to go to her games and they're so fun!
Time surely passes too quickly!

My "Addie" is Keelyn who was born in November after your Addie. And I completely understand those bittersweet feelings of watching our granddaughters grow up. My Keelyn is the 3rd of 5 granddaughters (plus I have an amazing grandson), so it seems like every time I turn around one or the other is doing something more "growny" than I was quite ready for. Just today I got a video of the "baby", my 5-year-old granddaughter who lost her first tooth. SIGH! I know you enjoy your Addie and I'm glad you now live closer to her!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am so happy to be living closest to them. Never knew how hard it would be living 10 hours away until Addie was born. How nice to have 6 grandchildren. I know you enjoy them all.
DeleteOh Judy, she grew so fast! I'm seeing in my grands too! My first who we waited so patiently for is now 7, her baby sister is 5 and our miracle baby who was so desperately prayed for after several losses will be 2 in a few weeks. They are all so precious! Addie is beautiful, athletic and loves her grandmother, what more could you want!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your first is 7. They're all growing up too fast. How can that baby be almost 2 already? Well, if you're asking what more could I want . . I would like to have had several more grands but that wasn't up to me. :)
DeleteOh my, she really has grown up into young lady! I always think of Addie (& other children) as the young child. I remember you writing about her when she came to stay w/you & Vince. Love all of the Addie stories but my favorite is the plum tree oh, wait maybe it’s the one about the truck. I’m glad y’all are close enough to be involved in her life. My Adeline is only 5 years old going on 20. Good Lord my son & dil are going to have their hands full.
ReplyDeleteThey do grow up too fast! I do have lots of fun memories with Addie. I understand the 5 going on 20.
