THANK YOU, JULIE!!
I have struggled with getting a way for readers to subscribe to my posts here. Many of you have asked. I tried. Back when I used Blogger years ago, there were all kinds of RSS services that took care of this with little to no knowledge/effort on my part. Most of those no longer exist or charge a monthly fee for it. At this point, I prefer to have no ads/no expenses.
Last night a reader, who is a friend I've actually met in real life, asked about a subscription. I told her I've tried several things and still don't feel like it's working.
She found a video that linked to a service I had not found and the lady showed how to do it step by step. Thanks again, Julie!!
There's a little "follow it" logo at the top right of the right side bar. That should work. I hope it works. If someone uses it and actually gets an email notice in a day or so, please let me know it's working.
Thank you all for your patience with me trying to do something that's probably over my head!
I’m so glad it helped and yes, it let me subscribe! I’ll let you know when I start receiving emails that you have posted. I’m excited, I was missing you, Vince, Cooper and Oscar! 😄
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYeah, Thank you to your friend Julie! I managed to sign up & I’ll let you know when I get an email. Idk if all follow it emails are the same but I subscribed to another blog powered by them & I don’t get the emails until 2/3 days after blog is published.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how this one will work. Most of those services now charge by the month. The one I had been using was up to about $35/month. I hope this one works ok but if not, we'll see what we can do.
DeleteI use Follow it for several blogs. It used to be you could read it in the email and it was nice but this spring they went to a paywall for that luxury. Now you get a green Read It button to read the posts and it will give you all the blogs that came in that blog post. But if they are long posts you still have to go to blogger’s page to finish it. For me it is easier to just bookmark the page and check them daily if they are a daily blogger.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for how everyone does it but for bloggers trying to earn income, they don't get income if readers don't actually come to the blog. I think that's why some have it set up that you get a snippet of what the post is about, and if you want to read the whole thing, you have to actually go to the blog. For the old blog, it was often over $3,000 per year in costs, and more if I needed help with blog issues, which wasn't the end of the world but without ads, or selling books or patterns, it just wasn't something I needed to be doing. So, I do understand people wanting readers to actually go to the blog. Being back on the blogspot platform, I shouldn't have any expenses here so it I don't feel like I need to have all the traffic going to the blog instead of reading it through a reader.
DeleteBut, I do like comments or email so I know someone is reading. :)
Just wanted to let you know I am able to follow on Feedly.. My husband was able to get me on when I could not figure out how to do it.
ReplyDeleteI’m still here, reading your new blog with the RSS reader Feedly. Feedly has a free version for up to 100 blogs. Dot in NC
ReplyDeleteI don't read emails. I use the Feedly app to read blogs and had no problem subscribing to your RSS feed using Feedly.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I'm not seeing any follow button?
ReplyDeleteI’m a daily reader. I simply bookmark all the blogs that I follow and each morning I make the rounds to check out what’s new. Easy peasy. I have not always been the best about leaving comments but I am trying to do better. I enjoy your blog.
ReplyDelete-Sharon
I got an e-mail this morning! I subscribed last night. It works!
ReplyDeleteLike many others, I am able to follow you on Feedly, with the added advantage of being able to read the whole post on the feed, something I couldn’t do with Patchwork Times.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Thanks for letting me know.
