Do These Two Look Similar

EDIT:  A very nice reader explained to me that Weeks Dye Works has a color called Stepping Stones, as does Classic Colorworks. The Classic Colorworks is the color I should be using. I got this project as a kit and had "borrowed" some of the colors but the Stepping Stone was not one I had borrowed so my guess is there was some confusion with my kit. It was NOT from 123 Stitch. In fact, the shop where I got this one is no longer in business. I had bought previous kits from them and they were fine. Right after I read the comment, the next color I needed to use was Cayenne. On my floss ring is Weeks Cayenne which is bright red. The dog is NOT bright red so it was another one that should have been Classic Colorworks. The "legend" that was copied when I made my PDF for Markup only has the color and not the dyer. Those are two things I will watch in the future - make sure I have the right dyer and make sure I have a bit more info on the legend that is used in the PDF.

Some day, I hope I learn to trust my judgment. Last night I was working on Sweater Weather by Plum Street.

See the dachshund on the right? His sweater looks green, right? Most charts will have the "legend" and they will list overdyes or silks, along with DMC.

For that sweater, the overdye is Stepping Stones by Weeks. The DMC color is 640. Here's the 123 Stitch listing for Stepping Stones:

That does not look green, does it? So, why did I start stitching with that color when I had DMC 640 that's obviously the right shade of green.

Thankfully, at some point, I decided no, this is not right.

Got that all ripped out before I went to bed so this afternoon, I will started on it again and next time, I hope I will trust my feelings and not keep stitching when it doesn't look right.

I think the problem was that, even though I had the DMC 640, it was in the sewing room and not yet on a floss tag. The dogs were already asleep on my lap and disturbing them usually results in at least half an hour of chaos. I could have just moved over to another area to stitch but, nope, I didn't. Next time . . I will . . or will I?  :)

  1. Well the other color is pretty but when you like a chart by the colors you see it in, it's so disappointing when they don't match up to the actual color of floss. I just realized I stitched an entire flower in the wrong area of my wreath but it's just a small project so I think I'm just going to work on the other side of the wreath and fit things in as I work on that flower out of place. I was greatly annoyed at myself! But not annoyed enough to rip it out on this particular project.

    1. If I had stitched much more, I probably would have left it and then switched to a lighter purple for the stars so they would show but . . it's all ripped out and I'll stitch it correctly tonight. Your idea is good - you can make it look right so there's no need to rip back.

  2. Sometimes stitching can be so frustrating. Is Stepping Stone the “ribbing” on bottom of the sweater?

  3. Judy 123 lists the overdyes to be Classic Color Works. That brand of Stepping Stones is more the shade of DMC 640. That might be the problem, wrong brand of overdye.

    1. Well, that explains it. Thank you. The floss list I have just had names/DMC colors and has no brand name. I got this as a kit and never checked. I should have done that when I first realized the colors weren't right. I'll be more careful from now on!
