We are NOT city folks and going to Kansas City is torture for both of us. Vince had a medical appointment today in Kansas City. We spent several hours over the last few days checking out restaurants to find a good place to eat lunch. We wanted something with good ratings, foods we liked, not too expensive and close to where we were going to be. Most important - a place that was open on Mondays! We had narrowed it down to three places. We talked about it more on the way to KC this morning and had our minds made up. We were going to Maggiano's Little Italy.
The appointment lasted a couple of hours. We were both starving. At the very end, there was a test the doctor wanted Vince to have. The doctor, being aware that we had traveled 2.5 hours for the appointment, asked if we wanted to get the test done today if they could work us in. Yes! The nurse, who knew we were going to eat lunch, came back and said "Can you be back here at 1:30?" It was already 12:30, we were at least 15 minutes from the restaurant. Vince and I both looked at each other and said "Yes, we'll be here at 1:30."
We ended up eating at Chick-fil-A - not where either of us would have chosen but we didn't have a lot of choices. It was that or Whataburger. The disappointment of not being able to eat where we had planned, was not a big deal. We were so happy to be able to get Vince's test done without having to make another trip to KC. The test was good - better than the doctor expected it to be. A different doctor called while we were driving home and told Vince the test looked GREAT!
We left the house this morning at 7:30 and got home at 5 p.m. Oscar and Cooper were so happy to see us. I don't think we've ever left them that long. I fully expected us to be home before 3.
I think all of us will sleep quite well tonight. The guys are coming to change out the vinyl "wrapping" around all the doors tomorrow and they're supposed to be here at 8:30 a.m. I'm so hoping that's a quick job and they'll be out of here early.
Glad you were able to get the test and results back before you left KC.....Our son and his family lived in KC area for 20+ years and we made several trips back and forth. The traffic is "horrific" (but it always seems that way in cities anymore). I'm sure Oscar and Cooper were overjoyed to see y'all come back.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I told Vince this morning - even though we are not used to driving in crazy traffic and we complain, we are so blessed to have the KC medical services 2.5 hours from us. We've been very disappointed in medical services here so it's nice knowing we can get second opinions and more that close.
DeleteWe used to eat at a Maggianos when we lived in Chicagoland. Pretty much our go to when we had time for a leisurely meal. Best part was it was 10 minutes from home. Food was consistent and good. Keep it on your list!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We will be back and forth to KC for a while so it's nice to have a trusted opinion on Maggianos. Eating out these days can be kinda scary and it seems that every restaurant has enough good reviews to make me want to try it but enough bad to reviews to say "No, thanks!" I try to read the bad ones first. Sometimes a bad review is simply that a crying baby was sitting behind them." Good grief . .
DeleteSo long as the good greatly outweighs the bad, I'll give it a try. Vince . . not so much. One bad review and it's a no for him.
We always choose Maggianos when we can! So glad you didn't have to make another trip. I grew up in a Minneapolis/St. Paul. When to college in a town of about 20K and never went back. Our town now is about 26K and we avoid "rush hour".
DeleteGlad the boys made it through. Our Molly will not eat or drink while we are gone as if she is afraid we will be late.🤣
I've eaten at a Maggianos in WIsconsin and it was good.
ReplyDeleteHi Judy. I know you love dachshunds. This is a link which will hopefully lead to a really sweet story about a dachshund which was lost in the Australian bush for 500 days. Hopefully it works. If it doesn’t try Australian Story Episode: Dog Gone https://iview.abc.net.au/show/australian-story/series/2025/video/NC2502Q033S00
