The Next Five Day Project

At this point, I'm not guaranteeing that I will work on this project for five days because I do not have the key that tells me what symbols go with what colors. At least three years ago, Oscar shredded about 1/3 of the paper chart. I didn't worry so much about it because I had made a PDF and had it in Markup. I guess I was frustrated and put it aside with this much done on it. Or maybe (probably) a new chart caught my eye and I switched over to working on that one. You know how I am!

When I got it out this afternoon to work on it, I opened Markup XP and I had not copied the key. In the early days of using the app, I could not figure out how to get the key included in the project so I just left that part off and used the paper key (chart). Now, I have no idea why I struggled with that because it isn't hard and here I am without a key because I didn't take the time to figure out how to do it. Or, maybe because my dog was out of control and shredded my chart. Either way . . I'm frustrated!

I'm thinking with as much as I have done, I can look at the symbol I'm supposed to use, find somewhere else where I've stitched that symbol and match up the colors. If not, I'll probably put it aside, get over my frustration and order a new chart.

I've looked at the floss (Vikki Clayton Silks) and noticed there were only two colors I had not used yet but then I realized those are just second bobbins of colors I've already used so I think I can figure this out. As I figure out a color, I'm going to make myself a key.

If I can figure out the colors, I'm going to work on this one for five days and IF I make decent progress because there is so much done already, I may stick with it and get it finished so I don't have to pick it up again and deal with the key issue.

    1. I have that. I'm using Vikki Clayton Silks and I always tape the conversion sheet inside the box where I held my bobbins. Not sure what I'll do now that she has the floss on paper tags! What I don't have is which symbol goes with each color.

  2. I always struggle with the Markup XP app. So much so that I only use it for one project, my leap year start…a real big one. I hold my breath every time I use it because I expect to touch something and have the entire chart disappear. Fortunately I am a little over half way. I wish the app had some sort of instructions but I guess technology is for younger people than me and they assume you should just intuitively know how things work. All that to say that I would be in your same boat if I lost my paper chart! I think you are doing splendid. Your piece looks great.

    1. Sharon, I wish we were closer. I'd be happy to help you through it. It's really SO easy once you do it enough to remember from one set up to the next what to do. I struggled and almost gave up and am so glad I didn't. If you will send me an email (Judy.blog@gmail.com), I'll give you my number and you can call me and we can try to set something up together.

The biggest issue for me was remembering how to do things when it would be a month or so before I set up a new project. One day I sat down with 5 or 6 projects and set them all up - going through the process one after another on the same day helped me remember a bit but there are still things I forget. It really is so useful.

I had been taking my tablet with me when I would stitch with Debbie but a couple of weeks ago, I set it up on my phone and keep one project on there for my stitching with Debbie day. I always have my phone with me and that has worked out good too. I wouldn't want to work off my phone every day but it surely is good for those once a week stitching days.

  3. Too early to comment -- this really doesn't help if you still don't have the key. Sorry. I'll bet someone with the key will send you a copy.

    1. It seems to be one of those mental blocks. I feel like I can but I found myself dreading to pick it up this morning. I'm going to do it though.

    2. I'll check when I get home if I still have my chart or if I pass it on to someone else. I'll let you know.

  5. Did you get the key? I have the chart and would be happy to scan the key into email and send it to you.
